Klafter, Leonard, 82, of St. Petersburg, died Thursday ( June 28, 2007) at home under the care of Hospice of the Florida Suncoast. Born in Newark NJ he came here in 1972 from Washington D.C. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served in the South Pacific. He retired as a computer systems designer and programmer from the Department of the Army. He enjoyed traveling and fishing. He was a member of Temple Beth-EI, S. Pasadena. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Lillie Klafter; a daughter, Judith Miller, Peoria, IL; two sons, Mark Klafter, Clearwater, and Allen Klafter, St. Petersburg; seven grandchildren, Donald, Douglas, Mathew, Summer, Jason, Randall and Allison; a sister, Jeanette Schapiro, Williamstown, Mass.; a niece, Judith Schapiro, New York, NY, and a nephew, Martin Schapiro, Williamstown, Mass. He will be buried in Arlington Cemetery, VA., In lieu of flowers family request donations to the American Heart Association. R. Lee Williams and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory Gulfport Chapel.
