August 5, 2007

He was born in Parksley, Virginia on August 26, 1918 to Lee and Sadie Gibbons. Mr. Gibbons enlisted in the army during WW II and received a battlefield commission to second lieutenant during the Battle of the Bulge. He was a decorated veteran and received a Purple Heart for his service in the war. He was a life member of the VFW Post 6827 in St. Petersburg. Mr. Gibbons' employment career was long and varied. During his life, he worked as a plumber, electrician, offset printer, and welder. He moved to Florida over 30 years ago, where he eventually retired to pursue his avocation, fishing. He often sold his catch to local buyers. One of his closest friends said that Les would rather fish than count money. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sarah Lee, in August, 2004. He is survived by a son, Terry L. Gibbons, Berlin, MD, a daughter, Brenda J. Hull, St. Petersburg, 3 grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
